Build with Voltage through the implementation model that matches how your organization funds and operates payments. Both paths use the Voltage Payments API; the difference is what backs the wallets and who operates the underlying infrastructure.

## Choose your path

### Credit-backed

Use a Voltage-provided line of credit without operating the underlying Lightning node. Start with [Credit-backed](docId\:HAiUtgdMBAOXSV0E3f3BM).

### Node-backed

Use a customer-controlled Lightning node and reserve beneath the Payments API. This path includes additional custody, credential, liquidity, treasury, and infrastructure responsibilities. Start with [Node-backed](docId\:QM0CY6SxnKlCMGmV4CWEp).
